Yellow Spined Caudiciform
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This massive caudiciform grows up to 121 feet (36.9 meters) tall. The tapering stem is bronze or bold yellow, and is covered in thousands of flexible copper spines. The round, olive trunk can grow to as much as 121 feet (36.9 meters) in diameter. Its yellow branches are short, rigid and upright.
The irregular-edged, needle-like leaves are solid light grey or lime, with amber zig-zags. They are rigid, but easily come away when pulled.
It is steady-growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are generally pink; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is shaped like a heart made up of several widely spaced, round-tipped petals. It has a powerful scent that smells like cheap aftershave.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the purple flesh is slimy, and the amber sap is thin.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
