Purple Fruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 26 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in fine, cracked, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow.
The abundance of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of small, pleated leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown with faded purple tips.
In early spring, it produces many small, lime blossoms with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like vomit.
In late autumn it produces small, 5 pointed fruit. The rubbery slate skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy faded purple flesh is savoury and powdery. The black seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is bio-luminescent.
