Blackfern

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2406 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wavy trunk covered in rough, black bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale yellow.

The extensive patches of branches are tall, rigid and upright, with thousands of twigs covered with small amounts of huge, gray-green needles. The needles themselves are light and frail.

In late summer it produces tiny, pale orange aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
