Spiny Goldfinger
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large caudiciform grows up to 94 feet (28.7 meters) tall. The very thick stem is olive or violet, and is covered in sharp spines. The wide, light brown trunk can grow to as much as 94 feet (28.7 meters) in diameter. Its yellow-green branches are short, rigid and upright.
The tattered-edged, finger-like leaves are gold and bronze. They are sturdy, and take some effort to detach.
It is steady-growing, taking 2 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with beige petals and an ashy blue central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 40 petals. It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like varnish.
The caudiciform's skin is thin, the crimson flesh is smooth, and the silver sap is thin.
The stems are covered in large spikes.
