Copperbark
Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)This modest-sized tree grows up to 8 meters (26.2 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 473 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a very thick, crooked trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is dark brown.
The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of soft, miniature, finger-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either light brown or brilliant blue, with cream zig-zags.
In early spring, it produces many clusters of giant, deep green blossoms with 5 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like rainy days.
In late summer it forms small, caramel, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is almost impossible to grow indoors.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
