Blackfern
Tree type: Coniferous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This short tree grows up to 3 meters (9.8 feet) tall and lives "forever", with many known specimens being tens of thousands of years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in delicate, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the light wood is burgundy.
The branches are long, thin and wispy, with hundreds of twigs covered with small amounts of giant, yellow-green needles. The needles themselves are strong.
In late summer it produces tiny, bronze, shelled seeds.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
