Crimson Oak

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 151 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in knobbly, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very hard wood is pale brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of smooth, tiny, needle-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are slate with gold tips.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, crimson, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if it falls or if its limbs are knocked off.
