Blackbark
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 198 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a wide, twisting trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is light brown.
The branches are short, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of rough, giant, sickle shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are beige at the bottom and indigo with dark grey dots at the top.
In late summer it forms small, hazel, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
