Burgundy Maple

Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 476 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, dark brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The tangled mess of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with very large amounts of crispy, small, thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either dark grey, or green with cyan lines.

In late summer it forms tiny, vibrant red seed pods.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It grows well in the sun and full shade.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
