Crimsonflower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.4 feet (43 cm) tall. Its burgundy stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 8 and are thin and straight, and split into numerous branching stems at the top, and the tiny, brown leaves are dark vivid orange on the underside and are spear shaped with wavy edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 5 to 7 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are olive at the sides and crimson at the center. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of 4 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a mildly strong scent that smells like coconut, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
