Bloodfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a thick, crooked trunk covered in very thick, waxy, brown-green bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale brown.
The abundance of branches are very short and thin and are covered with large amounts of small, sickle shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are olive and blood red.
In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, orange blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like coffee.
In early winter it produces very large, umbrella-shaped fruit. The rough caramel skin is thin and savoury, and the slightly crunchy crimson flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The hazel seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
It is suitable for making strong rope
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
