Water Oak

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 152 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is gray.

The small bunches of branches are very short and slender and are covered with small amounts of smooth, tiny, perforated leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are generally hazel.

In late summer it forms small, brown, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

Several parts of the creeper have medicinal properties.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
