Copperbell

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its green stem is thick and splits into 10 branching stems at the top, and the tiny, orange-yellow leaves are pleated with serrated edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

A single large flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 17 cm (6.7 inches) wide, with petals that are intense red at the sides and copper at the center. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight dish. They are very delicate.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like apple, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.
