Copperleaf

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 16 meters (52.5 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 138 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, slanted trunk covered in smooth, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown.

The tangled mess of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of soft, miniature, thin leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either cream, or blood red with silver edges.

In late summer it forms small, slate, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
