Copper Spearflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This giant flower grows up to 15.8 feet (4.8 meters) tall. Its copper stems grow in bunches of 4 and are very thick and straight, and the small, azure leaves are spear shaped with toothed edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Two medium-sized flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 53 cm (20.9 inches) wide, with petals that are vibrant orange on the edges and copper at the center. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of 19 raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like grass cuttings, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a small species of bird.
