Burgundy Creeper

Climbing plant type: Creeper (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short creeper is a very fast growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 13 feet (4.0 meters) and growing as high as 113 feet (34.4 meters). It prefers to grow on rock formations.

It takes 5 months for the burgundy stems to mature, by which point they have often fused together into ropes with a diameter of 1 cm (0.4 inches) and are rough and prickly.

The perforated, covered in fine hairs leaves reach up to 6 inches (15 cm) in length. They are bold red and slate, and have ripped edges.

During late spring, the creeper produces a thick sheet of small bold red flowers, and during the early summer, after flowering, it produces lots of large berries.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
