Clinging Red Onion Flower

Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This giant flower grows up to 16.7 feet (5.1 meters) tall. Its red stem is wispy, and the miniature, red leaves are slender, pointed with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Two medium-sized flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 29 cm (11.4 inches) wide, with petals that are bronze on the edges and olive at the center. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of tightly layered round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like onion, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
