Blackbark
Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)This small tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 619 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, wonky trunk covered in silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is black.
The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of crispy, large, thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are light red and vivid orange.
In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, olive blossoms with 4 kidney-shaped shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like fish.
In late summer it forms small, muted yellow, shelled seeds.
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for making paper
It can survive a very long time without water.
