Indigo Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 48 feet (14.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 62 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, crooked trunk covered in wrinkled, black bark, and inside, the very hard wood is gray.

The numerous branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are indigo on the sides and amber at the center.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, azure blossoms with 8 oblong shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a weak scent that smells like burning wood.

In early summer it produces small, long, narrow fruit. The soft light brown skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is bitter and sour, and the slightly crunchy indigo flesh is sweet and sour and very juicy. The washed-out yellow seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for making strong rope
