Blackneedle

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for over 3,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 3885 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in waxy, black bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The small clumps of branches are long and thick, with thousands of twigs covered with sparse amounts of miniature, hazel or crimson needles. The needles themselves are frail.

In late summer it produces tiny, crimson, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
The sap is brown.
