Blackwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 390 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in delicate, cracked, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches are short and thin and are covered with large amounts of smooth, tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine at the bottom and peach with grey splotches at the top.

In late summer it forms small, bronze, winged seeds that float and land far away.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
