Blackwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This massive tree grows up to 131 meters (429.8 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, curved trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, black bark, and inside, the very dense wood is black with white speckles.

The abundance of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with large amounts of soft, huge, fan-like leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are olive on the sides and peach at the center.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, beige aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
