Blackspike
Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This large tree grows up to 67 meters (219.8 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1537 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, wavy trunk covered in smooth, black bark, and inside, the dense wood is pale yellow.
The branches are very long, thin and wispy, with dozens of twigs covered with thick bunches of giant, yellow-green needles. The needles themselves are strong.
In late summer it produces medium-sized, blood red aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
