Bloodflower

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its brown stem is very thick, and the small, orange leaves are long, tapering with irregular edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Hundreds of tiny flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are pastel red at the sides and blood red at the center. The flower head is shaped like a bowl made up of handfuls of raised, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a fairly strong scent that smells like a newborn baby, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to bees.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
