Slatewood Pine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for over 2,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 2477 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in very thick, waxy, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The large clumps of branches trail down towards the ground, with thousands of twigs covered with small amounts of tiny, blue needles. The needles themselves are light.

In late summer it produces large, slate seed pods.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
