Carnivorafern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 19 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several knobbly, angular stems covered in very thick, smooth, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, sickle shaped, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are caramel with dark grey tips, light and clammy.

In late summer it produces bunches of giant, cyan flowers with triangular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like rotten meat.

The sap is blood red.
