Blueberry Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This massive fruit tree grows up to 47 feet (14.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in silky, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow.
The branches are very short and thick and are covered with large amounts of large, slender, pointed leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are dark purple at the bottom and deep green with brilliant blue edges at the top.
In early spring, it produces dozens of tiny, magenta blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like citrus.
In early winter it produces very large, 4 pointed fruit. The smooth silver skin is thin and sweet and savoury, and the soft sky blue flesh is sweet and syrupy. The bronze seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
