Crimson Heartvine

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.8 feet (53 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is thick and splits into several branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the huge, cream or blue leaves are light gray-green on the underside and are long, tapering with jagged edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

Two small flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with petals that are crimson on the edges and brown at the center. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 40 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are hardy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like bonfire smoke, and it has lots of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
