Bloodflower
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its silver stem is thin, and the miniature, orange and blood red leaves are light gray-green on the underside and are very narrow and elongated with irregular edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.
A single medium-sized flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with intense purple petals on the lower layer and slate petals decorated with dark brown dots on the inner layer. The central disk is intense red. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 curved petals. They are very delicate.
It has a delicate scent that smells like blood, and it has copious amounts of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
