Silverfern

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1246 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in hard, rough, silver bark, and inside, the very hard wood is yellow-brown.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright, with dozens of twigs covered with thick bunches of tiny, lime green needles. The needles themselves are delicate.

In late summer it produces large, hazel, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
