Clinging Trumpetvine

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stem is thin, and the giant, green leaves are oval-shaped with ripped edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

4 to 8 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 13 cm (5.1 inches) wide, with copper petals on the lower layer and hazel petals decorated with cyan dots on the inner layer. The central disk is indigo. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 10 tightly layered, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like meat, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
