Blacktwig
Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This short tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1325 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in hard, smooth, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the soft wood is white.
The sparse patches of branches are short stubs, with thousands of twigs covered with very large amounts of miniature, pink-red needles. The needles themselves are frail.
In late summer it produces large, olive, tough-shelled seeds.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
The bark, wood and leaves are edible.
