Burgundy Needle Tree

Tree type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This small tree grows up to 5 meters (16.4 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1165 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in cracked, brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright, with hundreds of twigs covered with large amounts of huge, burgundy needles. The needles themselves are sturdy.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, orange, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
