Aquamarine Spikeflower
Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This modest-sized flower grows up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. Its red stem is very thin, and the tiny, emerald leaves are black on the underside and are stiff, pointed with serrated edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.
Each stem splits 6 to 11 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with solid aquamarine petals decorated with gold dots and a washed-out orange central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 28 petals. They are sturdy.
It has an overpowering scent that smells like fruity, and it has an average amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to butterflies.
