Indigoberry
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 19 feet (5.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in ridged, burgundy bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.
The small bunches of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, circular leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are green with indigo tips.
In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, red blossoms with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like roses.
In early summer it produces , star-shaped fruit. The waxy brown skin is stretchy and inedible, and the slightly crunchy silver flesh is sweet and syrupy. The gold seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
