Bluefruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 24 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wonky trunk covered in very thick, smooth, light gray bark, and inside, the very light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of large, slender, pointed leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are solid olive or deep blue, with magenta patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, sky blue blossoms with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like a damp log.

In mid-summer it produces small, stiff, pointed fruit. The rough lilac skin is thin and edible when roasted; it is sweet and sour, and the crunchy silver flesh is bitter and dry. The florescent yellow seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
