Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This average-sized tree grows up to 12 meters (39.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 404 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in fine, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is copper-coloured.

The large clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of smooth, huge, perforated leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are orange-yellow with hazel tips.

In late summer it forms small, olive aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for making paper
