Golden Fruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a branched, curved trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of miniature, long, tapering leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are generally hazel.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, azure blossoms with triangular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like cheese.

In late autumn it produces small, slender, 7 pointed fruit. The rubbery gold skin is peel-able and salty, and the slightly crunchy vivid yellow flesh is bitter and savoury and dry. The red seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
