Copperleaf

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This big tree grows up to 73 meters (239.5 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 131 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, straight trunk covered in thin, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The small bunches of branches are very short and thick and are covered with copious amounts of leathery, small, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either amber, or washed-out green with pastel blue streaks.

In early spring, it produces many balls of small, grey blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a strong scent that smells like marzipan.

In late summer it forms giant, slate, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
