Magenta

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This enormous shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 58 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several stocky, angular stems covered in fine, silky, mahogany-coloured bark, and the wood inside is black.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, teardrop-shaped, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are either magenta, or crimson with gentle purple splotches, tough and fuzzy.

In early summer it produces large amounts of small, brilliant blue blossoms with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a weak scent that smells like leather.

In midwinter small long, narrow fruits ripen. The rough copper skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is sweet and salty, and the crunchy crimson flesh is spicy and oily. The caramel seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
