Copperfern
Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 373 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a thick, twisting trunk covered in hard, smooth, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is copper-coloured.
The tangled mess of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of rough, small, pleated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of lime green that gradient shifts to turquoise at the top.
In early spring, it produces thick bunches of medium-sized, caramel blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are hardy and have an intense scent that smells like perfume.
In late summer it forms medium-sized, blood red, winged seeds that float and land far away.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is bio-luminescent.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
