Silver Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 20 feet (6.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, twisting trunk covered in hard, knobbly, silver bark, and inside, the dense wood is yellow-brown.

The small bunches of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of tiny, asymmetrical leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are white and lime.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, copper blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like old books.

In late autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The rubbery peach skin is delicate and sweet, and the slightly crunchy grey flesh is spicy and oily. The red seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
