Copperleaf

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 404 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, slanted trunk covered in wrinkled, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with very large amounts of rough, huge, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and purple.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of small, light orange blossoms with long, tapering petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like garlic.

In late summer it forms tiny, cream, shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
