Burgundy Pine

Tree type: Coniferous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 47 meters (154.2 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 357 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in very thick, ridged, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pine-coloured.

The branches are long, thin and wispy, covered with small amounts of huge, hazel or blue needles. The needles themselves are soft and flexible.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, lime, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
