Magenta Split Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. It splits partway up the body to form 2 finger-like stems. Each stem is amber, and is covered in many rigid magenta spines. The spherical body is yellow-green, and is covered in lots of flexible cream spines.

It is very fast growing, taking 3 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with solid lilac petals decorated with red lines and a olive central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight cube. It has a strong scent that smells like skunk spray.

The cactus's skin is thin, the yellow flesh is rough, and the green sap is thin and causes upset stomachs if consumed.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
