Bloodvine

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its gray stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 7 and are thick and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems halfway up, and the tiny, pink-red leaves are dark orange on the underside and are circular with tattered edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

3 to 6 tiny flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with aquamarine petals on the lower layer and blood red petals decorated with white dots on the inner layer. The central disk is violet. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 55 raised, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like rotten meat, and it has excessive amounts of pollen, but it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
