Indigo
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This big fruit tree grows up to 22 feet (6.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 74 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a stocky, wonky trunk covered in knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is yellow.
The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with handfuls of giant, spear shaped leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are brown on the sides and cyan at the center.
In early spring, it produces many giant, indigo blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like lavender.
In early autumn it produces small, oval fruit. The sticky brilliant blue skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy brown flesh is sweet and spicy and very dry. The green seeds are large and are bunched at the top of the fruit.
The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
