Copperwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This huge tree grows up to 109 meters (357.6 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 300 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, twisting trunk covered in thin, smooth, dark green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is black with white speckles.

The sparse amount of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with handfuls of clammy, huge, fan-like leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of brown that gradient shifts to black at the top.

In early spring, it produces lots of small, dull yellow blossoms with pleated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have an overpowering scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, turquoise aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.

The sap is copper.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
