Climbing Crimson Vine

This modest-sized vine is a steady-growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 48 feet (14.6 meters) and growing as high as 117 feet (35.7 meters).

It takes 18 months for the lime green stems to mature, by which point they have tangled themselves into thick mats with a diameter of 2 inches (5 cm) and are smooth and woody.

The wispy, rough leaves reach up to 1.7 feet (51 cm) in length. They are found in intense red and violet varieties, and have smooth edges.

During late spring, the vine produces hundreds of small cream flowers.
