Copper Vine

Flower type: Annual (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized flower grows up to 8 inches (20 cm) tall. Its copper stem is wispy and splits into many branching stems at the top, and the miniature, lime green leaves are fan-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Many giant flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 11 cm (4.3 inches) wide, with solid black petals and a light brown central disk. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 60 curved petals. They fall easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like musk, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.

Several parts of the flower have medicinal properties.
